4-star Alabama signee Daniel Wright has good pedigree
Daniel Wright
School: Boyd Anderson (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.)
Position: Safety
Height/weight: 6-foot-1, 185 pounds
Also considered: Florida State
247Sports composite ranking: Wright is a four-star recruit, rated as the No. 118 prospect nationally, the No. 16 safety and No. 22 prospect from Florida.
How he fits into Alabama's plans: Wright flipped his commitment from Florida State to Alabama in late December. Wright is the younger brother of former Florida star safety Major Wright and comes from the same high school as former Crimson Tide All-American safety Eddie Jackson.
Projection for 2017: There's probably a good chance Wright ends up redshirting, especially if Minkah Fitzpatrick stays at safety, which he moved to after Jackson suffered a season-ending injury last October. Ronnie Harrison is a returning starter. So is Fitzpatrick. Top backups Hootie Jones and Deionte Thompson are also back. Both contributed last season, especially Jones, who played strong safety when Alabama went into its dime defense.

Mac Jones fits the profile of old Alabama QB
Mac Jones
School: The Bolles School (Jacksonville, Fla.)
Position: Quarterback
Height/weight: 6-foot-2, 180 pounds
Also considered: Baylor, Oklahoma State
247Sports composite ranking: Jones is a four-star recruit, rated as the No. 283 prospect nationally, the No. 12 pro-style quarterback and No. 38 prospect from Florida.
How he fits into Alabama's plans: It's hard to tell what Jones' future is at Alabama. Jalen Hurts and 2017 early enrollee Tua Tagovailoa are both dual-threat quarterbacks and the Tide has reconfigured its offense to accentuate the strengths of players who can run and throw. In previous years, Jones would be a perfect fit for Alabama. But now? Not so much.
Projection for 2017: Jones appears to be a prime candidate to redshirt. Hurts is the incumbent starter and only Tagovailoa appears ready to challenge him heading into the 2017 season. The coaching staff has already told Jones he has to put on weight if he wants to play. Out of the spotlight, Jones should have the opportunity to tackle that goal during his freshman year.
