quote:

Hirohito is much like Queen Elizabeth figure head. They deposed him of his power after WW2, you know this. That is what I thought you meant.

Tojo, was de facto President and a tyrant who is despised much like Lavall is in France or Quisling is in Scandanavia.

No, actually, what you typed was ...

quote:

We did not allow Japan to keep the emperor McArthur went in as ruler. They imprisoned Tojo and tried him as a war criminal.

And Hirohito was most definitely known as Emperor Showa, the 124th Emperor of Japan and he reigned until 1989. He was succeeded by his eldest son, Emperor Akihito who still reigns today.

Had you typed that we tried Hideki Tojo as a war criminal, and not implied that he was Emperor, I would not have challenged your claim, but Tojo was a general, War Minister and Prime Minister, not Emperor.

He was hung in December of 1948.

But I get your point ... I just wonder if you got mine about us allowing Japan to keep their Emperor?

Japan has also been allowed to erect many memorials to their soldiers, sailors and pilots who fought in WWII.

I did not imply Tojo was the emperor

But the US has always allowed certain people to keep their ceremonial titles.

The US military usually asks for three things after a war.

A plot of land to respectfully bury their dead
A res total of democracy and humane treatment of people
A passage home and thank you for assisting a land/country regain prosperity
