Our family has done Fitbit, garmin, and jawbone. We both got Microsoft bands for Christmas.
It very much depends on what you want from it. Fitbit is good at just the facts and motivation, with minimal screen time. Jawbone just has the app for info, nothing visible on the band itself, but from my understanding it has a great app. Vivo stuff from garmin is pretty salty combination of good stylish band, with display, but kinda a mediocre app.
The band by Microsoft is a good blend between smartwatch and fitness tracker (and costs more than anything listed above) And its app is outstanding. Much more interactive to your health than any of the others.
At the end of the day, do you want to get steps in, be reminded to move? Fitbit charge probably. Maybe jawbone.
Want HR to know how much you're really burning? charge HR or one of the Garmins.
Want step by step workouts, HR, golf course info, notifications? MS Band or one of the more expensive Garmins
