I have a big family and Alabama Football is big in our lives. My entire life we've traveled to games, supported the team as a family. It's something that keeps us together and we will Al always have in common. This is who we are. Basketball too for that matter, all things Alabama. We all love the university, the atmosphere, the memories, our state's pride, and its athletic dept even if life takes us elsewhere. Not all of us went to Alabama, but we will always be Bama fans no matter what.

I'm telling you, that for some of us out here the sports program and what it means to our family runs deeper than where we spent 4 years going to class to help us get careers

Fair enough. I am pretty sure that is why Bama is the greatest football program in college football. Unmatched dedication.

I am not foreign to the concept as that is what the Saints are to me and my family still in New Orleans. Or why A&M joining the SEC will always be huge to me personally- it allowed me to bond with my 89 year old Ole Miss fan grandad more. So I can understand that family connection.

I guess what I don't personally understand is-why can't someone be a MSU fan and a Bama fan? They only play once a year and the rest of the time there is not internal conflict. Is fandom monogamy so important to people like your family that Bama can't be a strong #2 or even tied for #1? Why can't people have the personal ability to be a fan of more than one team?

You don't have to answer that BTW, just thinking out loud. You have already offered an excellent discussion and I appreciate that. Better than I deserved.
