I didn't read the whole thread. Someone probably summarized it. Here is my take on what happened.

1. Saban was the first choice. The Dolphins season and future wasn't quite in the tank. He passed. He became more and more pissed at the media as the weeks went on.

2. Spurrier was the next choice. I believe he came close. Spurrier has said terrible things about his rival schools. He rarely (and maybe never at this point in time) says anything negative about Alabama. He respected Akabama and their traditions.

3. Rich Rod was kinda the last choice. He accepted the job (at least we are pretty sure he did) and then changed his mind when he slept on it.

4. Panic sets in.

5. We throw the kitchen sink at Saban. The 32 million $ contract blew him away. It also helped that he knew the Dolphins were going nowhere fast. He changes his mind and accepts the job. Of course, this leads to a clusterfrick at Miami. Personally, I believe he meant at the time all his comments about not taking the Alabama job. We just were panicked and scared and went full retard with the $.

I think this is the closest list of events that we will ever come to. I'm not convinced he didnt know at the time he told the media what he told them, but I also put that on the media, not him. When you force questions like they did, you put a coach in an impossible position. You dont want to lose the support of your players when you dont even know for sure you are taking the job, or even if you do, when there is a lot of foot ball left to be played.

I blame the media on a lot of problems coaches and players face today. The game of football is complicated enough at that level without reporters fricking everyone's heads up with their prying questions that usually do nothing but undermine a teams ability to perform. In all honesty, if I was a coach, I would put forth a set of rules for types of questions that could and couldnt be asked. Not so much for my own personal reasons, but for the betterment of the team. If you ask a question that isnt allowed at my press conferences, you dont get invited back. It's my press room and if you think for a second that I won't black list your arse to preserve my team then youre sorely mistaken. And that's just how it would be
