Bjork told The Clarion-Ledger on Jan. 18 that the school hadn’t received a preliminary notice of inquiry, a notice of inquiry or a notice of allegations over the prior weeks. The Clarion-Ledger made an open records request on Nov. 7 for a copy of “any Notice of Inquiry or Notice of Allegations the University of Mississippi has received since Dec. 30, 2013.” The university responded there were no such documents. An open records request for copies of communication between the school’s athletic department and compliance office sent to the NCAA and Southeastern Conference since June 30, 2014, in regards to rules violations related to the football team was rejected. The school cited privacy rights of its students and employees as the reason for declining to fulfill the request. The Clarion-Ledger is currently working with an attorney in an effort to obtain documents it believes it has a legal right to under freedom of information laws, including the Notice of Allegations and communication between the school and the NCAA and SEC involving possible or actual football rules violations.
