But that's pretty important in college football, wouldn't you say? A 16 and 17 year old recruit will only have a conscious memory of a team from the previous 8-10 years.

We run in to this in Arkansas all the time. There are a bunch of old 40-60 year old fans who can't comprehend how Arkansas isn't in everyone's top 10 destination jobs. They say "I mean, from 1960-1980, we were a force to be reckoned with! Those kids and young coaches need to respect that and come play here..." Completely forgetting that the current batch of recruits weren't even alive BEFORE Houston Nutt was coach of Arkansas.

I mean, how insane is that? To us in our 30s, it feels like the 90s were just yesterday. But a 16 or 17 year old recruit wasn't alive before Tennessee won in 1998.

I love the history of sports. But it's as an outside observer. If I'm a coach or athlete, I probably don't care much about who won the 1977 Orange Bowl, or how many claimants there are to a national title from the 1960s. I want to know who is going to get me on TV, award shows, and to the draft TODAY.
