Kaydra Duckett leaving Cocks for semester
Looks like it is just academics and not an all out transfer
Cocks now down to just 11 players and Cats down to just 9, could be a crazy game thursday.

Duckett played today I thought ... maybe not.
Cliney finally returned full time today after a year off. She's a major player out of the Tiff Mitchell mold ... glad to have her back.
Edited: Clingy to Cliney and sheeesh do I hate autocorrect sometimes.
But I count 14 less Duckett, then subtract the two who have to sit-out because of transfer rules ... Kaela Davis and I forget who the other one is, Alisha Gray I think. So that's 12. I think they must be forgetting Cliney .... and she is already contributing. She got playing time at Vandy and today vs Mizzou.

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- No. 2 South Carolina has lost more depth, with guard Kaydra Duckett becoming the second backup to leave the Gamecocks this month.
Coach Dawn Staley said Sunday that the sophomore will step away from team activities in the spring semester to focus on academics. Last week, Staley announced that freshman guard Shay Colley had left school to transfer somewhere closer to her home in Canada.
The Gamecocks (14-0) face No. 20 Missouri (14-1) later Sunday.
Duckett is a 5-foot-8 guard who played in eight games this season. She played in 20 games as a freshman, averaging fewer than three minutes.
Losing Colley and Duckett leaves the Gamecocks at 11 players.

May have, when does the semester start?
Could be she played today if classes have not started for spring semester yet

Yep ... that's what it was. She got-in the one last game and now she, herself, wanted to take-off a semester from basketball and focus on her academics. She's evidently an intelligent gal, majoring in some sort of technology I was told ... so no crip courses for her. She really wants to focus on academics for her future, but Staley has told her to come back when she is ready. She's not leaving school, she's still going to be a Gamecock. But to me it sounded like she may not return and rather, she may try to work towards graduating early and moving-on to her professional life in the private sector.
When I first read your post I thought it must be a forced suspension, but come to find out, it was not.

No, they got it right. PG Tiffany Davis has an ACL injury and is lost for the season. So of the 15 you have listed, Duckett, K. Davis, A. Gray, and T. Davis are unavailable for active duty this season.
So that's 11 available players including walk-on Farmer. We'll lose 5 (Mitchell, Sessions, Dozier, Roy, Imovbioh)to graduation after this season, but 2 in K. Davis and Gray will become active, plus 2 incoming freshmen in Harrigon and Bradshaw, so we'll be down to 10 players including Farmer who'll be a Sr. next season.
And T. Davis has played so little during her career at USC and hasn't played that well, and has dealt with injury so much (she was lost 3 gms into her freshmen season to a foot/ankle injury), and Duckett may not return to the team with her academic issues plus she doesn't seem to be developing which means perhaps she doesn't have the desire to continue playing.
In other words, the coaching staff needs seriously to find someone somewhere out of the JUCO ranks or somewhere to add to this team. We should have a great starting 5 the next 2 seasons - perhaps the best in WCBB with Stewart and Jefferson leaving after this season - but the depth behind them will be pretty thin...

You're right Conway .... she does need to sign a big class this year. I think she may, the way it looks right now, she may.

This is multiplied across several of the good SEC teams. Between transfers, injuries, and DNP's not sure I ever remember a year the SEC had such a body loss across the conference. Not sure if this is like a "100 year flood" thing and tied to the law of probabilities but it certainly is weird. On the other hand, it would be really better if the NCAA stepped in and stopped ESPN from recruiting for the ACC and Uconn.
