I seem to be one of the people y'all are talking about, as I've always gotten questions and comments about my demeanor when I should be hurting and times I should be fearful. I've lost several people that were extremely close to me, and every time I may shed a couple tears behind closed doors for a couple minutes and that's it.
For some reason I just have this instinct that kicks in after that where I try to lighten everyone's mood, no matter the place and time (which has gotten me into some trouble). I think it's because I wouldn't want everyone sad and crying their eyes out at my own funeral or over me dying, it should be a celebration of that person. TLDR: everyone handles grief in different ways, and although they may not seem torn up on the outside it doesn't mean there isn't a storm raging on the inside.
Another weird thing I do is laugh hysterically when I'm fearful or scared, like during a scary movie when something tense is going on or riding a roller coaster. I'm all mixed up.
Back to the thread- I can't imagine this happening to anyone in my close family or friends and I pray that his family and friends learn to cope with it over time. It's always a million times harder to lose someone doing something that is so routine to them because it's the last thing you'd expect to happen.
