Imagine if the NCAA used testimony of "Secret Witnesses" that turned out to be the HC of your most hated rival (Saban) and a jock sniffer like Tom Culpepper to nail LSU and skullfrick them with penalties that set your program back at least a decade. You'd be pissed too.

Sure Bama was guilty of things and Dubose let the boosters get too involved in the program, but using Fulmer and Culpepper as "secret witnesses" was total bullshite and the punishment far outweighed the "crime".

To this day if UA never gets another recruit out of Memphis I won't lose sleep.

But that's all a thread for another time, like 20 years ago. Half the posters on here probably aren't even old enough to remember that bullshite.

I wasn't saying that like I don't get why Alabama still holds a grudge. Someone else said Ohio State would never hold a grudge against a coach because they are somehow above that because of the prestige of their program, that'd they'd ultimately be ok regardless. I was only saying no one is above holding a grudge, given the right circumstances. I only used Alabama as an example, given they are a more prestigious program than Ohio State.

I know. It's cool. That just sets me off on a rant every time I think of it. And I was thinking the same thing when a fanbase wailing and gnashing teeth was mentioned.

Alabama was punished far and beyond what was precedent for similar infractions because they thumbed their nose at the NCAA years before that.
