People like to flake these days. It is annoying. I do think it might be a millenial thing as well.

It has to do with texting. Texting and cell phones have allowed us to be in constant communication. Thus, if someone makes plans, they physically can cancel at the last moment, when in the past that was not an option. It allows people to be flaky.

In the 80's, when you told a group of friends you would meet them at the mall at 6:00, if you weren't there, they had no means of knowing why. Now, you can send a text at 5:59 explaining that you won't be there.
