Except that on their own, plea deals do not take away anyone's right to a fair trial. It's simply a legal agreement where you wave your right to defend yourself for a lesser punishment. In and of themselves, plea deals violate no Constitutional requirements or the due process of law. Now, if you want to argue that public defenders are either incompetent OR (more likely) overworked and thus inefficient, that's another discussion.

Don't attack me like I'm the only one throwing around ad hominums. I didn't even care about plea deals; I was just trying to say that plea deals doesn't necessarily mean defendants will get a fair trial!
On their own, plea bargains are just legal instruments, no shite. I wasnt arguing against that. As a whole, they can be coercive if prosecutors threaten to throw the book at the defendants.
