This isn't mysterious at all.

UT is his alma mater and dream job and he went 152–52 there and won a natty. He climbed to the mountain top at the school he played for and was/is a millionaire.

At that point, what else is there to want?

Dude was in his 60s before his buyout stopped paying and --- I don't know how many successful men in your 60s you know, but I know a few and typically, if they've already peaked in their career at that point and have grandkids, the fire is just out and even though they know so much and have so much experience they can perform at a high level automatically, they have no passion and just want to relax at their place in the country and play with their grandkids. That's life.
