We are a wealthy school, filled with wealthy people, in a wealthy state, and we can spend money on something. I lived in Moore, and as a freshman I remember a buddy grabbing me and making sure I didn't run across the street when I was wasted. My night vision is terrible and I couldn't really tell how far away it was. It's something we can figure out.

So the same person who is so inebriated they think it's fine to run across University at night is going to pause and say to himself: "Running across the street here would be irresponsible. I think I'll walk out of my way to take the footbridge. I was too wasted to be patient for the signaled pedestrian crosswalk, but I am perfectly okay with taking the time to go to the base of the footbridge instead."

We had the Rainbow Bridge over the train tracks between West Campus and Kyle back before they dug the underpass. I realize that some of y'all too young to know that. The reason why they dug the pedestrian tunnel/underpass was because few people used the rainbow bridge due to it being a minor inconvenience and we kept having the train run people over. A pedestrian bridge is not the solution.

A tunnel there is way, way, way too expensive when the only justification would be "drunk kids refuse to use the existing signaled crosswalks" and it has the same drawback - that being that drunk kids will still try to run across the street. These individuals crawled over a low wall/barrier to get to the street, so apparently, short of stringing a 10' razor-wire topped fence along University, people will still do it. In the end it comes down to personal responsibility/accountability. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
