Air Raid is lacking....

...2 TE sets and misdirection plays. Counters, reverses, play-action, deception and power plays still work at the highest level, ask the NFL. It's called sending the defense one way and throwing or running the other way. It's not complicated. It's not molecular engineering. Suck the defense in and then throw over the top into single coverage.

This version of the Air-Raid by design has eliminated any kind of misdirection plays and EFFECTIVE play-action. The results against good defenses has become very predictable...We live or die with QB play whereas Bama and LSU rely on RB play and physical line play for success.

We don't run the air raid anymore, haven't in about two years.

The problem is Sumlin isn't an offensive guru like some mistakenly think. He doesn't have a "system" and has never been the primary playcaller for an air raid offense, or ANY spread offense. His offenses here and at UH are determined by his coordinators, and thus look drastically different across the years.

Right now we run no air raid concepts. None. Our offense is as different from the air raid as it is the triple option.

Yeah, we don't even close to air raid.
