One signaled to stop the clock and the other signaled to wind the clock. Butch was apparently told the clock would stop, and it didn't.

Not trying to start a pissing contest with you, but I think the clock was signaled to stop b/c it was a first down. Once the chains were set the clock was started. So while the ref did signal for the clock to stop it was for a first down, not out of bounds. I think that might have caused the confusion either on the ref's part in explaining it to Butch or in Butch's understanding of what the ref was saying.
