Its the same reasons why every mediocre program never ascends to the elite hardware. Recruiting, money, location, prior success, players in the NFL.
Programs at the likes of , Fayetteville, Starkville, and Oxford(until recently somewhat), etc are not very appealing programs. Not a big support base, havent finished at the top of CFB in recent years, not alot of players going into the NFL, less benefits for the player. Not a lot of spotlight.
Now, every situation is different and that doesn't mean the little guy can't compete or doesnt have a quality program. Its just hard to maintain. One of the reasons why I think Dan Mullen is one of the best coaches in football.

And we still beat LSU , with your ugly city Baton Rouge, loaded with talent has trouble with the terrible team from Arkansas. We have things in place to be competitive, money, facilities and rabid fans. We can afford what ever we need or want now. Fayetteville is a great place to live, many of our athletes stay here and work. Theirs over 300 Fortune 500 companies with offices in our area. We will be fine!
