Grady Brown – Secondary/Assistant Special Teams Coordinator

The only changes to he '13 staff is the addition of Jon Hoke.
Biggest downgrades
1. Recruiting Coordinator:
Shane Beamer > Steve Spurrier Jr.
Beamer was the recruiting coordinator for the 2009 and 2010 classes that were the foundation for our 33-6 run. He was also involved in the 2011 class
With Bubba as recruiting coordinator we've seen massive number drops at LB, CB, DL and WR.
2. Defensive Line coach:
Brad Lawing > Deke Adams
Lawing was great. Adams might be a better recruiter (debatable) but Lawing had a portion of NC locked down and is clearly the better coach. Our problem the past three years on defensive has been lack of a pass rush.
3. Defensive Coordinator:
Ellis Johnson > Hoke/Ward
In the same way Johnson is a turrible head coach but a great coordinator, Ward is a turrible coordinator but great assistant coach. While the jury might still be out on Hoke, watching the CBs play 10 yards off and allow quick slants and curls the first 3 games, and allowing UGA's QB to go 24/25 has me thinking he is a downgrade too.
4. Strength and Conditiong coach:
Craig Fitzgerald > Joe Connolly
Fitzgerald left to coach at Penn State and is now with the Houston Texans in the NFL. Connolly was his assistant while he was at USC. Ward said in the preseason that our DL aren't as fat and out of shape as they were last year but while improvement is good he clearly isn't as good as Fitzgerald.
5. Linebackers coach:
Ellis Johnson > Kirk Botkin
Ward has a connection with Botkin and brought him back up to the college ranks from high school. He is most known for his fight on the sideline with Deke Adams during the 2013 UGA game. Johnson was the better coach and recruiter.
6. Running Backs coach:
Jay Graham > Everette Sands
While Sands might not be a downgrade on the field, he definitely is one off the field. He is not half the recruiter that Sands was.

The only upgrade we got was getting rid of Jeep Hunter and letting Mangus coach the TEs
The offense was able to compensate for the huge coaching downgrades in 2013 and kept us in the games in 2014 but now that the talent has dried up on that side of the ball because our recruiting coordinator is an incompetent hack that is only here because of nepotism we are a flaming bag of donkey balls.

Totally agree. And the scary part is that it feels too late for Spurrier to do any major changes. He had his chances to do it the last couple years. Where is our AD throughout all of this?

I don't think its the AD's job to assemble assistant coaches and as a former coach I'm pretty sure Tanner feels the same way.
Spurrier should have cleaned house last year but I don't think he wanted to put in the time and effort that it would have taken. So instead he hired his buddy from Florida to fix things on defense and it didn't work.

I don't want a micromanaging AD.

That's fair. What's crazy is how these current guys are getting paid as top half of the SEC coaches and producing a bottom half of the SEC product. Some of their contracts are up after this season, so we'll see some changes. How many changes, we'll have to wait and see.

Assistant coaching contracts are usually year to year but iirc after the 2013 season all the assistant coaches were given two year deals.
What a mistake that was
