Getting kicked out of school and having this on his record for the rest of his life among community service and a hefty fine would be enough without prison time IMO.

He was a freshman and he was expelled immediately. I remember people saying "The people who did this won't be caught. Their friends won't rat them out". Then Ole Miss put out a large reward for information leading to an arrest and they were turned in fairly quick
