Kelly expected to start
Jones said he expects sophomore safety Todd Kelly Jr. to be healthy enough to start Saturday against the Sooners.

Kelly was hospitalized for multiple days last week because of an infection that Jones said was related to his recent tonsillectomy. Sophomore Evan Berry started in Kelly’s place Saturday against Bowling Green before Kelly entered the game late in the first half and played for most of the second half.

Jones said the 5-foot-11, 208-pound Kelly now is “100 percent” healthy coming off his infection, and made a noticeable impact on Tennessee’s defense during Saturday’s game.

“Todd brings a calming effect,” Jones said. “It’s just like Brian Randolph. Brian Randolph puts his time in. He’s one of those individuals who has a baseline level of performance. He can make checks. He gets us in the right calls. He’s a problem-solver.

“T.K. is that exact same way. You could see the defense kind of, not relax, but have a calmness about themselves when T.K. entered the game because he works at it. It’s important to him. He understands the nature of the safety position and what it means from a communicative aspect.

“But he’s 100 percent. We expect him to be ready to go against Oklahoma.”

Big boost for the secondary, they played noticeably better when TKj jumped into the game this past saturday.

Great news. We definitely looked better as a whole when he came into the game. Need him and Randolph to have a big game this weekend for us to have a shot
