They make a hell of a lot more from football than they do soccer, track, women's basketball, lacrosse, swimming, jai alai, water polo, golf etc.

Football and basketball are the only sports that have a chance to generate any sort of income.

What are the attendance records for UALR basketball? Not all that great is the last I knew. I'm trying to figure out who would actually go watch them be the annual door mat for almost 10 years after they establish, since they can't even get much bbal fan support.

I take it I'm the only one up at 2 am, too.

It's true, but for a school like A-State, their athletic department is at a break-even position, if even that. They garner more money from "student fees" and from "donations" to the football program out of university coffers than they do from ticket and merchandise sales.

I doubt their ticket and merchandise sales even pay for the football program's expenses. It is propped up via other means, like "student activity fees" and checks written by the academic side of the school.
