Copy/paste from my response in the other thread:

quote:

Bama was averging 40.6 points per game that year leading up to the LSU game. Chavis held them to 20 points less than their average.

So to put this in perspective: the LSU offense scored 6 points more than what the Bama defense was surrendering that season. While the LSU defense limited Bama to 20 points less than what they had been scoring.

You're right. Clearly, the defense was the problem that game.

I think the problem here is that Saban knows something that Miles doesn't. And that something is that the offense is not just there to give the defense a breather. The offense actually has to score points. So Saban, a defensive coach, understands that he actually has to have a good offense. And consequently, he does. That 2012 Alabama offense finished ranked #12 in the nation. No other team on Bama's schedule held them to as few points as did LSU. Only one other team held them below 32.

But let's put the loss on Chavis anyway.

Kirby Smart also understands how to preserve a lead with 2 minutes to go in a game. Chavis doesn't
