i agree it's been going on for a long time now but for some reason the shooting has really raised the want for removal of the flag

I don't know about Mississippi but people have been protesting the removal of the confederate flag in SC for a while now. I went to a protest with my church in 2007 (it was MLK day, and I was forced to go. I was pissed.) It's only recently caught on in the national media thanks to the shootings.
