Picking UGA to go 8-4... with what will be one of the best defenses in the country and the best running back in the country and a pretty favorable schedule - as all but two of their toughest games are at home.

Doesn't make much sense to me.

He's picking that because the usual first year qb starters go an average of 8-4.

That describes LSU last year. There is one element missing from your analysis.
