I'll come right out and say it, I don't get the hype. All the talking points about Auburn I think are accurate, but more as a cautious optimism than what I expect. Such as improvement on defense.
I think/hope JJ will be solid but I'm not crowning him as elite yet. He'll be in completely different circumstances as a starter and we can see his hype come back down to earth as the season goes on.
What surprises me most about these is that Auburn isn't hailed as the best thing since sliced bread, but simply that our strengths/outlook stacks up so well against others. It makes me wonder (as someone not super familiar with the ins and outs of every teams) why they're expecting such a dropoff from a team like Alabama. I personally will assume they're the team to beat until we go 2-3 years in a row where they aren't champion.

I agree with the hype. I don't agree with 2-1 SEC odds hype (I know this isn't a serious proposal). The SEC is just too stacked for that clear consensus type of prediction.
Honestly, the only program who gets that treatment, and has earned it, is Alabama under Saban. FWIW I don't think they're really deserving of it this year, but I don't think anyone is.
