Your top College pick is typically going to start their pro career out in A-ball or High A. A HS signee who succeeds is most likely going to be further than that after three seasons (the College kid's NCAA career).

What you are missing is that the kids coming out of high school are paid peanuts unless they make it to the "bigs" and the average college player will get bigger and better contracts as a norm. Sure...they get paid a signing bonus out of high school but then reality sets in with long bus rides, skimpy facilities and average arrangements in living quarters.

Its hard to make it in MLB just as it is in the NFL or NBA etc etc...no one is there to hold your hand and wipe your azz for you...as a result the average high school player will face a lot of uphill struggles and the failure rate is slightly higher most likely.

You know how many football & baseball players are driving beverage trucks, selling insurance or working in a wireless retail center after a few years of pro ball? It is the dream of most football players at major level schools to become pros and the rainbow keeps moving around on them. Its ok to dream and try to pursue it, but backup plans better be in order.
