Based on? I would say that both schools have their strengths over the other. If, for example, you wanted to be a lawyer, you'd likely pick Alabama over AU.
University of Alabama is a top 25 law school in the country

If you wanted to major in Business, you'd likely choose Alabama over AU.
Univeristy of Alabama's School of Business ranks 25 spots higher than AU's
If you want to be an engineer, you'd likely chose AU over Bama:
AU School of Engineering ranked #68 in country
