Fundamentalist religious opinion is again, not the issue here. We are talking about mental illness and proscribing genital mutilation on the basis of social belief.

Hermaphrodites are NOT mentally ill. They have biological deformities, much like down syndrome. No one is arguing for a ban on corrective surgeries or reclassification of anyone with disabilities to be banned.

Bruce Jenner does not have any physically female characteristics. He does not have ovaries. He does not have a vagina, nor was he born with one. He has 1 Y chromosome. Bruce Jenner is a man, 100%, with a mental illness. The current promotion of genital mutilation as a treatment for mental illness is on the same level as the proscription of lobotomization for people with Schizophrenia in the 19th century. Physical mutilation has never been a humane treatment for the mentally ill, and yet psychiatry continues to find new ways to inflict it on the most vulnerable of society. What is being done in the name of 'gender freedom' is insane, inhumane, and repulsive. If Bruce Jenner believed himself to be a dog, would anyone argue he should have his fingers cut off and his pelvis broken so that he would more closely resemble a dog to an observer?
