It wasn't Tubbs being some amazing coach, it was more Bama being on probation and scholarship restrictions. A lot of coaches got fat off of Alabama during that period. Nutt, Croom, Tubbs, Fulmer, just to name a few.
Most people beat Bama during that time. Hawaii beat Bama and so did Northern Illinois. It wasn't an accomplishment, we were extremely bad. We had no "star" players. Unless you guys consider Prothro a star, and we all know what happened to him.
Funny what happened when we got off of probation and got a competent leader. Every single guy I listed above was run off within 2 years. Their asses blistered and heads hung in shame. It still brings a smile to my face.
