And to add to that:
total defense
10 Auburn #60
12 Texas A&M #58
Edit: Also 10 Auburn at least played Clemson ooc. 12 Texas A&M played no BCS teams and 2 FCS teams ooc. The West was just as strong that year as it was in 12 as well.
