It's certainlh an Interesting hire. I go back and forth on it being a good or bad hire. I think his NBA success or failure of irrelevant in determining how good or bad of a coCh he'll be in college.
He does bring legitimacy to the position in the eyes of kids wanting to get to the NBA, so that's a good thing when it comes to recruiting. He seems like a personable person, which is also good in recruiting, as well as being the face of the program.
The unknown is how he'll do as a college coach. There's just nothing on his resume to gauge, and as a Bama fan that is a little unsettling.

Kids in next year's recruiting class were 10 years old when he was fired from the Maverick's.
