on top of it with a population that has a decent amount of people who have migrated in from other areas

while that is true, in some cases, it isn't always true. Example: I have relatives born in Fl whose parents "migrated" there and are SEC fans now, as the generations renew those old allegiances brought from other states have a tendency to weaken.

But look at what the state supports, 3 huge schools in UF, FSU and Miami, and a myriad of different pro teams along with all those smaller colleges. I was just in Fl again to watch the Cardinals last week, and the mixture of people and fans never fails to astound me.

As said, pro teams in Florida have tended to have poor attendance. But I think that has less to do with the state being capable to support those teams as it does there's a lot of other variables in Florida which makes it kind of a bad example of a state who can't support both.

While we don't have a pro team here, Louisville is an hour and a half from Indy and just under 2 from Cincy. There's several folks here that support either UofL or UK and are also Bengals/Colts fans. You get into Northern Kentucky and there's several Bengals fans. I don't think the close proximity hurts any of the colleges here.
