Don't blame others for your problems.
Not really advice given directly to me. I've heard it said and it makes perfect sense to me. Only way to overcome obstacles in life is to take full accountability of yourself.

Not advice given to me, but a former roommate had a little picture/plaque type thing above his door that I THINK was an abe lincoln quote that said "whatever you are, be a good one". I've always like that. Whether you're a CEO or garbageman, be the best at it you can be.
How have I applied that lesson? I sit at my desk for about 8 hours a day and fart around on message boards.
