If it's still there and you like rustic steakhouses, the Angus Barn is a good place to eat. It sits just northeast of the airport off Glenwood Ave. It was a landmark restaurant when I lived there, and had a nice Western style bar upstairs where I got sick drinking cognac once.
Downtown Raleigh has a nice restaurant/bar scene called Glenwood South. It probably draws more people in the area than anything else, and not far from NC State Univ. It's about 18 mi from Durham down the I-40 Beltline.
