Only thing I'm worried about and all Bama fans should be, is the jackass involved in making this crucial hire. This is the same idiot that had to be exposed to extreme pressure both financially and by the fanbase before he realized Grant had to go. I'm deathly afraid he is going to take the easy way out, the coward's way, and pick up the phone and place a call to either Mike Davis or Steve Prohm and give them the job and overpay them in the process. We can and should do much better, but I won't feel comfortable unless I know the hiring decision has been taken out of Battle's hands. The OP is right, this is a hire we cannot screw up or our basketball program takes a backseat both in state and in conference. If I were making the hire, here is the list I would call and in this order:

Gregg Marshall- "No" doesn't cost anything
Shaka Smart
Ben Howland
Archie Miller
Ben Jacobson
Michael White
Bobby Hurley

After I had exhausted this list, then and only then, would I call either Prohm, Davis, or hell, Mike Anderson while we're desperate.

I just wish some news would leak from somewhere indicating where we are trying to go with this search as I don't trust the searcher.

Battle was our 1970s version of Dooley. Wasn't ever truly qualified to lead a big time program and got a job based on riding coattails of an SEC legend. Bill Battle fricked Tennessee football in the 1970s (a UA alum like Battle being given the UT job is strange in the first place, imagine Majors or Fulmer coaching Alabama, just ain't right). Hopefully 40 years later for y'all's sake he doesn't nuke Alabama basketball.

God it's weird your current AD was once the head football coach at Tennessee.

I never supported the Battle hiring from day 1 and still don't. It was a "good ol boy" "don't rock the boat" hire that handcuffed the department. Truly high end coaches and executives with many offers don't like to walk into a situation where the person who hired them and evaluates them will likely be gone in a couple years. Anyone older than 30 has probably been in a situation where a new boss rolls into your department and they start to distrust existing employees and begin hiring new ones who are loyal to them. It's an uneasy feeling.

If I'm a hot coaching name and I know there is a big rebuilding project ahead of me, I want to know that the guy who trusted and hired me in the first place is going to be along for the rebuild.

Not a bad list. I personally don't think Howland would be a good fit. I said it in another thread but I would call Andy Kennedy to see if he is interested. He has to be getting tired of hearing about White.
