I think this hire is going to be the most interesting in the SEC. Obviously football will always be king there, but there is no reason they could not at the same time field a competitive basketball program. If Alabama is truly serious about basketball, they must act now and acquire a proven winner. Once Pearl gets his recruits in, he could monopolize that state basketball wise. I honestly think Alabama currently has a better infrastructure for basketball than Auburn, but they need a real leader to utilize the resources the Capstone could offer. Pearl has shown he is capable of closing that gap. Alabama must act now and wisely if they want to be relevant. I think Alabama has the same ceiling theoretically that a program like Tennessee has. I don't expect Tennessee to ever be perennial national title contenders. I just want a fun team that consistently makes the dance. That's all I ask for in our program and I see no reason why Alabama shouldn't have the same expectations. Nothing like it when your school makes a run in the dance. It will be interesting to see what Alabama does from here. Ball is in their court for now.
An excellent post. We've been a consistent top-20 program before and can/should be again with the right coaching leadership.
