The problem is the "false equivalency" phenomenon (I'm not saying you do this, CheesburgerEddie, I honestly don't know).

Christians do terrible things in the name of Christ today and have done so historically.

Today there is no comparison between the worst atrocities of Islam and Christianity. So it is incredibly frustrating when someone (often a non-christian lately) points out the unique level of the problem in Islam only to be shouted down by the false equivalency knee jerk PC response "but Christians are/were bad too!"

Of course they were and some still are, but to say Christianity is on par with Islam in atrocities today is the left wing's version of saying evolution doesn't exist.

Well stated. And painfully correct.

I remember writing essays defending liberalism when 1) I was a liberal and 2) it was politically a 'bad' thing to be. All of the sudden we're in a chapter of American history wherein you're either a liberal or a shameless sociopath. Now it should be obvious to everyone that most liberals are every bit as ignorant and preposterous as our fathers thought them to be.
