nobody denies that the Crusades and Inquisitions sucked and were shitty things done in Christ's name by men abusing their religion for power. Just like i would submit ISIS is doing now. there hasn't been anybody on this board or any board since ISIS reared its ugly head defending the actions of Christians in the past for that. they sucked, plain and simple.

what we do get a lot of is "yeah, ISIS is killing people brutally and murdering people for being in other religions, westerners, or gay, and the majority of the Muslims world doesn't really think it's that bad and kinda agree with it, but 600 years ago people went to war and Christians don't bake cakes for the gays so it's the same."

to the point:

But he just said the actions of a nation state were to be blamed on the Church and i found it an ironic and ignorant statement.

The problem is the "false equivalency" phenomenon (I'm not saying you do this, CheesburgerEddie, I honestly don't know).

Christians do terrible things in the name of Christ today and have done so historically.

Today there is no comparison between the worst atrocities of Islam and Christianity. So it is incredibly frustrating when someone (often a non-christian lately) points out the unique level of the problem in Islam only to be shouted down by the false equivalency knee jerk PC response "but Christians are/were bad too!"

Of course they were and some still are, but to say Christianity is on par with Islam in atrocities today is the left wing's version of saying evolution doesn't exist.
