indoor track championship

How serious do they take indoor track? I ask because the Olympics, World Championships, etc, are all outdoor and all in the Summer. Most of these athletes train all year to peak in the Summer for those events. The NCAA Outdoor Championships are also in the Summer.

Then there are these indoor events that are in the Winter. They seem to get far less attention than Outdoor (outside of Arky fans on tRant). Do most athletes just consider this a training test or am I misreading it?

That's basically my question. Arkansas wins or is near the top in indoor every damn year. Outdoor they're clearly behind Florida and A&M consistently. The only thing that makes sense to me is most everybody other than Arkansas ramps up to be ready for the outdoor season. But I wondered if I was missing something and there's some fundamental difference between the two.
