"Salt of the Earth"

Movie is not great but the back story and how it came to be is fascinating. This movie is widely heralded as the only movie in American film history to be black listed. A group of black listed film industry types tell the story of a New Mexico mine strike and when they can only find three professional actors to star in the film they use actual miners and their families as the stars of the film.

Another one that I saw about a year ago and haven't found many people who have seen or heard of is "Savannah The Movie" about market gunners in Savannah. Good tale, good production values, not great acting. Supposedly the maker's father loved the book and the movie was made for him. It was never meant to be released to a general audience and was made knowing it was a losing venture but was a labor of love. Not a great movie by any stretch but great story and good enough movie given the way/reasons it was made....
