Doesn't surprise me that the NCAA ignores blatant cheating...

Learn the difference between cheating and a rules violation.

Most schools have some type of rule violation unknown, known and unreported or known and self reported. In this case LSU did violate the rule and self reported so how is this cheating. Cheating would have been an attempt to conceal the violation so with your statement you are actually saying LSU runs a clean program

Lets change the sport and use Golf as an example.
After a round of golf each player checks his card and signs the card and approves his score. If the player hurries and does not really pay close attention and the card is found to be incorrect then the player is disqualified.

All golfers would not call this player a cheater only careless

Someone at LSU is guilty of being careless of knowing the rule. It really does not matter seems LSU has identified the problem and will pay the price.

Lol what? You can't be serious. So its okay to not follow the rules as long as you don't know them?
Ignorance of the law doesn't make you innocent. I didn't KNOW I couldn't have this ounce of cocaine, so you shouldn't arrest me officer!
I didn't KNOW I couldn't line up past the OL to get a head start, so please don't throw that flag ref!

That's such a bad example you used to. Anybody that's golfing beyond just a hobby and is competing shouldn't be so careless with something that could be so major. "Overlooking" a stroke could have a big impact on results. That's cheating whether or not you meant to or not. If the officials let that slide then what's to stop a golfer from "overlooking" a stroke and saying "oh my bad, I was just careless and forgot" if he happens to get caught.

Same with LSU. They signed this kid to an early financial aid agreement knowing damn well he wasn't solid but that they could get an advantage with unlimited contact. If they were just being careless then you need to hire somebody new to keep track of that stuff because they suck at their job. I don't buy that you didn't know anyway, because LSU self reported. Careless or not LSU still gained an unfair advantage in an ongoing recruitment and that is cheating.
