Stacking the box has nothing to do with the plays that were called though. I guarantee that defenses had only 1 safety playing back WAYYYY more often than they did against us. I remember several occasions where the safeties didn't even pretend like they had zones to cover in the defensive backfield, they rushed up to the LOS like linebackers.

So the LSU explanation for Chubb outperforming LF is not that he is better, but that everyone around LF - the line, the QB, and the coaching - sucked?

This is a reach. There's no way you could know that unless you were either in the team meeting rooms of defenses scheming for UGA and LSU, or had actually spend 100s of hours breaking down the film.
BTW, I guarantee they still had some defensive assignment on a passing play.
