I will always respect Bear Bryant as legendary coach. I miss picks of his grizzled face, scouring down the sideline with a smoke in his mouth.

I feel much the same about Pat Dye. He was imo a great coach and cut from the same clothe as Bryant. The link I posted earlier actually takes you to the video of the interview. It was great hearing the Bear's country talk again--- straightforward and to the point. He told Dye not to take the Auburn job before it was officially offered. Both Dye and Bryant have made that a known event. Dye then goes on to say Bryant wanted him to take over at Alabama, but Dye knew he would not get that job. I see no reason to disbelieve this and at the end the Bear's words could be seen to support this.
Alabama has had some great coaches and one legendary coach.
Auburn has had some great coaches. Without Shug, bama might not have sought out Bryant. Without Bryant, Auburn would not have gotten Dye. The examples go on and on. The rivalry is the best thing for college football in the state of Alabama, because both teams are always pushing to dominate the other.
