If he'd been at Alabama with the bias that supports the program he wouldn't have been on the outside looking in at National titles.

There's definitely something to that, which is why it bugs me when UA fans speak in absolutes of NC when so much subjectivity existed in deciding them. They were most definitely the beneficiary of biased pollsters more than once.

I barely remember the end of the 60's but I do remember the 70's and believe me Alabama was never the beneficiary of pollsters.
In the 70's this is how the landscape looked.
Most Favored by conference

1. Notre Dame( Independent)
2. BIG 8 ( Nebraska/Oklahoma)
3. BIG 10 ( Ohio St./ Michigan)
4. SWC ( TEXAS)
5. PAC 8 ( Usc/UCLA)
6. SEC ( Alabama)

Alabama got railroaded in 66 and 75 or 77 I cant't remember which.
SEC was looked upon as being inferior to the other leagues. I believe because black athletes from the south who weren't accepted on SEC campuses until the mid 70's while most left the south to play elsewhere.
