I have a friend who is transitioning from male to female. I'm very worried about him (he doesn't want me to refer to him as "her" or "she" yet).

Those with gender dysphoria have an unbelievably high suicide rate; it's something around one in five.

Regardless of my thoughts and beliefs, I can't abandon him; actually, that has never crossed my mind.

I don't think I "get" exactly what he is doing yet since I haven't seen him dressed or behaving like a female in public yet. The furthest extent of feminine behavior I have seen out of him is his shaved legs when he wears shorts or his painted toenails when he doesn't wear shoes.
