So, one of biggest fanbases in the country and two markets that have more people watching college football does nothing for the SEC network.

No, not really.

A game like Tenn/Bama is Tier 1 content, or should be. The SEC Network is for Tier 2 or 3 level content that before was either on ESPN U, ESPN 3 or regional channels like the Sunshine Network in Florida. The stuff that adds real value to the SEC Network is basketball, women's softball, USC Football, etc. They need stuff to fill the air time.

Now one thing that confuses this is the fact that ESPN has put some obviously high Tier 2 games, like stuff that would be on ESPN 1 but not CBS, on the network. This will be rare and random as a way to put pressure on cable companies in certain localities, but most SEC Network content will be tier 3 content for over a decade.

CBS is going to get the first pick for a while, and that Tier 1 contract is the one that depends on media market value like you Tenn fans are hooked on. But that has NOTHING to do with the SEC Network. Nothing.

In fact, that CBS contact is under market value. As I implied earlier in the thread, if the SEC just depended on that old model it would make less that any other Power 5 conference because that deal was struck before the media rights boom that followed the Pac 12 contract.

Your stupid media markets don't pay the bills like they used to, at least when compared with a business model that forces every cable provider to buy our product because ESPN can point the SEC jihad fans at them and level their phone lines. Welcome to the 21st century Vol fans, the game has changed. Cable footprint in your state now matters more than history for money purposes.

As I said earlier, big regular season games are now more for exposure than full monetization. Unless you are going to tell me right now you expect Tenn to suck so bad in the near future that y'all are stuck on the SEC Network, which in that case you may have an arguement.

And before you go calling someone a moron how about you do a little bit of research yourself eh? You might know a lot about football or fricking your sister or something, but I know more about this media rights crap than ANYONE on the Rant. Bitch.
