Northwestern survives because of the Big Ten. It is a small school with a small fanbase. They get to share revenue, however, with Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Penn State (etc.).

Those are the schools and the fanbases that make the midwest the #2 region for CFB fandom in America. If the sport loses them, it will become a regional thing like baseball or hockey.

I honestly see a Big 10 revival with a Harbaugh vs Urban rivalry. If the Big 12 can gain a few good schools and not implode, they have the brand names to be in there as well.

So yes. Parity and competition for all.
