part of the SEC west's problem IMHO lies in
a)the psychology and the let down of not being in the "winning circle" as it were. The SEC and the WEST specially play for the SEC title and the National title. I believe that when neither is attainable, the spirits dwindle. Maybe the coaches are not doing a good enough job with motivation.
2)Also, the strength is in the DEPTH of the division and the relentless week-to-week demand, so when you put them in Bowl games, you are always matching each team (which may the the 1 - 6th in the div) with another conference's best team and allowing 3 weeks preparation in addition.
Parity becomes more of a factor.
If we would match 6th SEC team vs the 6th "X" Conference team the results would be different...
in some cases, style also has a lot with it...I would dislike having to play GA TECH....have to re-learn a lot
3) As coaches move around, the SEC STYLE will be copied w its philosophy as well

People knew when Meyer went to OSU that he would elevate coaching pay and expectations in the B1G. It's happening and the SEC is finding out that nothing lasts forever. In that conference now you have Urban and Harbaugh, expect other dominos to fall as well.
