No it's not. Both teams have to consider it a rivalry. You can't just pick some random team out and say they are a rival.

Right now, SC is a bigger rival than UT. It's been a more competitive series of late, the buzz in Athens is much higher during SC game week than UT,

Again, no. Just because a series is competitive does not make it a rivalry. UGA/GT is a huge rivalry and the series has not been very competitive lately.

While MAYBE a factor it would be a small factor. If we decided to play Ga. Southern or Ga. State every year, that would not necessarily make us rivals.

Exactly. But Spurrier has recently brought out emotion that I've never seen against UT.

Huge rivalry with Tech? Georgia was selling tickets to the public the week of the game. And before you mention Thanksgiving, there weren't any tickets being sold to UA/AU that week. Tech tickets have always been easier for me to get. SC, AU, UF? Not so much.

It's the emotion of the game. Spurrier's presence has made it a rivalry because of his public disdain for Georgia. Will it be the same after he retires? Probably not. But right now it's intense, & it's not exclusively because of the game's importance.
