Even tho the song is actually anti Governor Wallace, people believe it is pro Wallace. In fact, I believe most people who like the song believe it is pro-segregationist and that's WHY they like it. I have no doubt that this cop is a similar kind of stupid, and that's WHY he played it.
As a private citizen, he should be able to wear a KKK outfit and antagonize protestors if he so chooses. But he's a fricking cop, and as a cop you can't do that shite. His arse should be fired, post haste.

No, I think most people who like the song like it because it's a good song.
